NY Tea opened in June at Oswego Plaza, 140 Route 104, where GJP Pizza was once located. We spoke with Kevin Kha, who is in charge of the business.
Q: This is a real new business, correct?
A: Yes. We had our soft opening June 4 and grand opening on June 9. We are leasing this place. It used to be a pizza business [GJP Pizza]. We renovated it. There was a lot of cleaning in the kitchen.
Q: So, how has business been?
A: It has been real good. We have had a lot of people stop in. Some days are better than others.
Q: What has been your bestseller so far?
A: I’d say it has to be the strawberry-mango tea. It’s been very popular, especially in this hot weather. Our regular chi is also popular.
Q: What else is on your menu?
A: We have a large variety of teas and coffees. We have pho (“fuh”) a Vietnamese noodle soup. Vietnamese coffee — takes about five minutes to drip down. It is very concentrated. Matcha boba [or matcha bubble tea] combines Japanese green tea powder with Taiwanese milk tea and chewy tapioca pearls, a variety of specialty beverages. We also have some snacks, wings, mozzarella sticks and cold drinks as well.
Q: The menu is the same all day?
A: Yes. We have an all-day menu. People can order something for breakfast lunch or dinner.
Q: What is your busiest time?
A: It is kind of hit or miss. Sometimes it is busier earlier. Other time, we get a crowd in the afternoon.
Q: How big is your staff?
A: We have six or seven. When we start getting more business, I will probably hire more people.
